Mackay’s former Town Hall is an integral part of the city’s history. Built in 1912 as the Mackay Town Council administration centre, the building served that role until the Mackay Civic Centre was completed in 1975.
With $0.5M in funding from the Queensland Heritage Trails Network, the Mackay Town Hall has been restored to its former glory and now houses an information centre that references local heritage sites, and also facilitates arts workshops, artists-in-residence and other community services.
For the city and the region, the Old Town Hall is culturally significant as it provides evidence of the history of Mackay in the early 20th Century. |
