Maryborough Heritage Gateway

  Maryborough
Maryborough is considered one of the finest heritage towns in Queensland. European settlement began in the late 1840s and it soon developed as a port for wool and other primary produce. The region is particularly noted for its architectural heritage, especially the large number of elevated timber Queensland houses.

Queensland Heritage Trails Network funding of $0.5M established a Network Gateway at Maryborough Customs House. Here, the city's historical assets and cultural heritage are showcased, enticing visitors to explore the surrounding region and other Queensland Heritage Trails Network attractions.

The historical themes of immigration and the development of the timber and engineering industries feature strongly in the representation of Maryborough's heritage.

This is a region that has a number of places that are important in demonstrating the evolution of Queensland's history, in particular the history of immigration and the development of the timber and engineering industries.
