A $1M North Queensland Gateway will be established in two locations in Townsville. A major new social history exhibition will be established in the box gallery within Townsville’s Museum of Tropical Queensland, due to open in mid-2004. Powerful, interactive displays will educate visitors about the history of Townsville and will introduce them to the Queensland Heritage Trails Network.
Images and stories of Townsville's colourful past and the lives of local residents come alive at the touch of a screen in the hi-tech Living History Centre at Townsville's city library. The display includes a film on Townsville heritage on a large screen, touch screen presentations with photographs, stories and information, and heritage wall panels featuring historic photos.
