The Misty Mountain Trails & Kennedy Trail

  The Misty Mountains
An integrated network of world-class attractions in the Wet Tropics World Heritage Area showcases the varied nature of Tropical North Queensland’s geography and history.

Five trails have been developed over 150km of existing logging roads through the magical World Heritage-listed Wet Tropics rainforests of the Tully Valley. One of the trails, the Kennedy Trail, retraces the steps of Edmund Kennedy's historic, and tragic, trek through North Queensland.

The trails form part of the Great Walks of Queensland and provide visitors with the opportunity to see some of the most spectacular areas of Queensland.

Presenting the Wet Tropics attractions include:

  • The Tully Visitor and Heritage Centre housed in the relocated former mess from the Tully Mill will provide interpretive elements focusing on life on the Tully River.
  • The Nganyaji Interpretive Centre at Ravenshoe is a ‘keeping place’ and interpretive facility showcasing artefacts and presenting their linkage with the cultural landscape.
  • Tully’s famous King Ranch is the site of a unique arts and cultural centre.
  • On the Echo Creek Walking Trail, join Jirrbal guides walk you along a forest track following a traditional Aboriginal trading route, identifying rainforest species and bush tucker.
  • The Kennedy Trails presents aspects of the historic Kennedy expedition through the Cardwell and Herberton Shires.
  • Palmerston Canopy Walk – investigation of the potential for a world-class canopy walkway in the Wet Tropics rainforest south of Cairns.
  • The Misty Mountains Walking Trails project is a network of medium and long distance walking tracks in the central sector of the Wet Tropics World Heritage area located between Tully, Innisfail, Malanda and Ravenshoe.
