Broadly, the Drive Tourism Program has been developed to enhance
the experience of the motoring tourist throughout Queensland
and provide a stimulus to the State's rural and regional tourism
industry.
The Drive Tourism Program 2000 - 2002 is a partnership between the Queensland Heritage Trails Network (QHTN), Department of Main Roads (DMR) and Tourism Queensland (TQ). The Drive Tourism Program is entirely funded by the Queensland Government.
The program's objectives include:
- To provide a major stimulus to Queensland's regional and rural tourism industry;
- To establish a Statewide marketing framework and identity for road-based tourism across the State's strategic tourism routes;
- To promote the Queensland Heritage Trails Network project sites and Queensland's Heritage sites in general; and
- To enhance the experience of the motoring tourist throughout the State.
As an outcome of this initiative, it is hoped that all local governments and Regional Tourism Organisations (RTOs) around the State will capitalise on the professional marketing framework provided by the Drive Tourism Program 2000 - 2002 and incorporate aspects of the program into their local areas. This will encourage the motoring tourists travelling throughout Queensland to have a Statewide seamless tourism experience, irrespective of which area they visit.
The Signing Implementation Brief has been prepared to provide guidance on the implementation of the Drive Tourism Program for 2000-2002. It gives guidance in relation to sign types, design and legend (including logos), number and location of signs, installation, removal and costs associated with provision of tourist signing schemes and heritage trails and sites signage.
