As part of this re-badging exercise and the implementation of the Corridor Management Plans (CMPs) for the three themed routes, the current National Highway Routes 54, 71 and 66 from Brisbane to Camoweal will be re-badged to become the A2.

In Queensland, DMR has worked with the tourism industry to develop a concept of routeidentification to better support long-distance tourism. The objective of the project is to ensure that further implementation of the route numbering system proceeds with the appropriate degree of national consistency, with regard to the wide range of circumstances and levels of road system maturity throughout Australia. The re-badging of the A2 is a major priority for DMR and will undertaken as part of this Program.
