Drive Tourism Program 2000-2002:Visitor Information Signage

Queensland Visitor Information Centre Signage Policy
Blue and yellow italicised ‘i’ signs are being introduced nationally to denote quality visitor information centres that are staffed and provide a full range of services. Eligible centres must apply to TQ for accreditation and must comply with certain provisions and demonstrate business sustainability via a business plan.

These centres will be a key regional/local disseminator of information about the QHTN Drive Tourism Program 2000 - 2002.

Objectives of the Queensland Visitor Information Centre Signage Policy
In order to raise their standards of information provision and acknowledge genuine visitor information providers, State tourism agencies throughout Australia are currently developing and implementing accreditation programs or policies for the provision of visitor information. A new yellow on blue italicised 'i' symbol has been developed (and trademarked) to distinguish visitor information providers who achieve these standards.

After extensive consultation with industry and government, Tourism Queensland has developed the Queensland Visitor Information Centre Signage Policy to achieve these objectives. Only those visitor information centres that meet the eligibility criteria and standards of the policy will be authorised to use the new italicised 'i' symbol. The new branding will therefore assure Queensland visitors of high quality information and professional standards from these centres.

Policy Eligibility and Standards
Regional tourist association and local government authority operated or funded VICs are eligible to apply for use of the new 'i' symbol under the Queensland Visitor Information Centre Signage Policy. This ensures that only those centres whose primary purpose of business is information provision, and who are genuine providers of objective visitor information, are acknowledged by the new symbol. In addition, eligible centres must satisfy minimum operational standards should they wish to apply for use of the new 'i' symbol.

Tourism Queensland has produced a resource kit that provides visitor information centres with information to assist them to achieve, maintain, and where possible exceed, the policy standards.

Promotion of the new branding
Centres which display the new symbol will be promoted through various promotional and information sources, such as regional tourist organisation publications, Sunlover publications, Department of Main Roads maps, RACQ publications, Tourism Queensland destination marketing publications, Tourism Queensland, regional tourism organisation, local government association and local tourism organisation websites, regional media releases and proposed national promotions of the new 'i' sign.
